The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (ӣ��Ӱ��) hosted the 44th Annual National Latina Women’s Conference & Expo at the San Gabriel Hilton on March 7, bringing together Latina leaders, professionals, and aspiring young women to explore opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

This year’s theme, “Tenacidad e Ingenio” (Tenacity & Ingenuity), emphasized the power of perseverance and creativity in shaping the future of Latinas in STEAM fields. The conference featured dynamic workshops, insightful panels, and valuable networking opportunities designed to unlock the potential of the next generation of innovators.

“Empowering Latinas in STEAM with ‘Tenacidad & Ingenio’ is designed to connect young women with experts in the sciences and arts through workshops, panels, and networking opportunities to unlock their potential to become a future innovator,” said Dr. Lilia Sarmiento, Co-chair of the National Latina Women’s Conference.

The event welcomed over 400 high school girls, who engaged with industry professionals, gained hands-on experience, and learned about career pathways in STEAM.

“MAOF is dedicated to helping Latinas succeed in exciting STEAM careers,” said Jerry Velasco, ӣ��Ӱ�� Board Chair. “This conference is a great place for learning, inspiration, and growing a career, no matter what stage you're at.”

The conference also honored trailblazing Latinas making significant contributions in their respective fields:

• Yesenia Monsour, Senior Director, Regional Government & Community Relations, Kaiser Permanente
• Gina Orozco-Mejia, Vice President, Gas Engineering & System Integrity, Southern California Gas Company
• Belissa Escobedo, Actress (Blue Beetle, Happy’s Place)

Actress Jessica Marie Garcia (On My Block) served as the host of the Awards Luncheon, celebrating the achievements of these remarkable women.

The National Latina Women’s Conference & Expo remains one of the longest-running gatherings focused on advancing young Latinas in professional and leadership roles. ӣ��Ӱ�� continues to champion initiatives that promote education, career development, and economic mobility for Latinas across California and beyond.
